On Monday 4 February, the crew of Station 3 Blue Watch from Dee Road Fire Station in Reading came to The Oratory Preparatory School. Along with their fully equipped fire engine, and Watch Manager Steve Trenery, the crew spoke to the Early Years children in the Pre-Prep department about their jobs, and the importance of fire safety.
The children have recently been learning about ‘People Who Help Us’ and were delighted when they were shown all of the functions of the fire engine, including the hoses and powerful metal cutters. Pupils even saw one of their teachers dress up in full firefighter gear. The children particularly enjoyed going into the fire engine itself, to get a true taste of life as a firefighter by seeing where the crew sit when they are on their way to a job.
This fantastic visit extended the children’s learning about the Emergency Services, where they have learnt about what each service does, and how they protect our society.
