Since the arrival of our Headmaster, Mr. Andrew De Silva, in 2022, The Oratory Prep School has embarked on a mission to elevate the quality of education across the school. Central to this mission is our Learning Support, Middle Learners, Discovery Programme and Scholarship Programme designed to ensure that every pupil, receives the support and encouragement they need to thrive.
Our primary objective is to foster independence, build confidence, and promote academic success for all learners, preparing them for the right senior school for them in Year 9. We provide personalized learning approaches, ensuring that every pupil’s learning journey is tailored to their unique needs.
Learning Support and English as an Additional Language
We have created a comprehensive support system for our students. From Early Years to Junior Prep, we closely monitor and assess pupils, offering Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to those who need extra help. Our Sensory Circuits programme, held before school, is particularly beneficial for our neurodiverse pupils, helping them regulate sensory input and improve focus, body awareness, and emotional regulation.
Our Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) provide vital resources for nurturing resilience and mental well-being. For our international pupils, we offer tailored support to ensure their English language skills are on par with their peers, facilitating smooth transitions and successful academic progress.
Discovery Programme
Introduced this academic year for Years 2 to 6, the Discovery Programme offers enriched educational experiences aimed at preparing pupils for Year 9 entry. These engaging, fun sessions are designed to spark interest and enthusiasm in various subjects, taking place before regular school hours to instill a love for learning.
Middle Learners
Recognizing the importance of supporting pupils at all academic levels, our teaching practices focus on metacognition and adaptive learning. By setting challenging objectives and providing actionable feedback, we help middle learners achieve academic progress and build a solid foundation for future success.
These initiatives have yielded results during this academic year. Pupils are more engaged and enthusiastic about learning, with notable academic improvements. The Discovery Programme has successfully narrowed the gap between regular Year 6 pupils and those in the Scholarship programme. Our Year 8 cohort has achieved outstanding scholarship results, with several students earning prestigious academic awards. We are incredibly proud to be recognised in the Muddy Stilettos Schools Awards.
